How to prepare for groups exam?

As we already know UPSC Civil Service is the toughest, most prestigious and more reliable Government Job in India. There is no doubt that preparing oneself for this test is no less than a battle. Of course we will discuss how to prepare yourself for different parts of the exam but before that we will know the parts of the examination at a glance.

UPSC Civil Service exam conducted in three stages

  • Prelims or Group 1 – This is objective type exam or multiple choice
  • Mains or Group 2 – This is descriptive type. Where good writing skill is important
  • Personal interview or personality interview or Group 3 – At this stage of examination, the candidates have to express their personality through various questions in front of the examiners.

Now we will discuss, which books should be follow by the students to prepare for the examination.

Group 1 or Prelims – As we know in this group questions pattern is objective types. The best way to take preparation for this group is to read all NCERT books from class VI to class XII.

In this part includes two compulsory papers. Paper 1 – General studies and Paper 2 – Civil service aptitude Test.

Paper 1: Important national and international current affairs, History of Indian national movement, World Geography, Political Science, Economics and development, General science, and Environmental.

Paper 2: Comprehensive, Basic Numeracy, Logical Reasoning, Communication skill, and General mental ability.

Group 2 or Mains – In this segment question pattern is descriptive types and total number of papers are 9. This phase designed to check the ability and in-depth knowledge of the candidates. Out of the 9, 7 papers are consider as the life changer for the students.

Paper 1 – Essay
Paper 2 – General study 1
Paper 3 – General study 2
Paper 4 – General study 3
Paper 5 – General study 4
Paper 6 – Optional subject 1
Paper 7 – Optional subject 2

And last but not the least is Personality Interview or Group 3.

Now, many aspirants have this question that if they pass the Group 2 examination but could not crack Group 1 exam.

If someone who have passed Group 2 examination but could not go through the Group 1 examination yet they are eligible for all kind of assistant post of the officers, and the job like Deputy Tahisil Dhar in Revenue Services, Assistant Comercial Tax Officers, Municipal Commissoner Grade-III, Sub Registrer Grade-II, Coperative Sub Register, Assistant Section Officers, Senior Accountants in Government Life Insurance, Assistant Auditors, Juniour Assistants in some Head of Departments, etc. posts.
